for our 2016 Hillclimb!
Sept 10 - 11, 2016
Better than Deals Gap. More thrilling than the Isle of Man. Your very own Pike's Peak.
Enjoy an full mountain road that is entirely closed for you for two whole days!
Can you imagine what you would you with a 4 mile mountain road with 40 turns that is completely closed for you? Stop imagining and sign up for Climb Ascutney!
This is an event that is uniquely friendly to first-time hillclimbers like you. Join a fun bunch of riders on everything from vintage bikes and sidecars to sport bikes and supermotards, GSes and other daily drivers for a weekend of unrestricted riding up and down the paved Mount Ascutney auto road.
The way it works is like this: you prepare your bike according to some straightforward guidelines and make sure you have the proper riding gear. Show up for the novice orientation on Friday night or Saturday morning to learn the ins and outs of the event and hillclimbing in general. First thing in the morning, take a low speed "Fam" run (Familiarization Run) with all of the other riders to get to know the hill. Gather at the top and when everyone is up, come back down in a single file. Turn around and get in line according to your number and take your turn riding up the mountain at your own pace, with no other traffic, no speed limits, and no pressure. Of course, there will be some fast riders there who are paying attention to their times. We send the racers first so there is proper spacing and no pressure on any rider on the hill at any time. At the top of the mountain, you relax and chat with other riders until the last rider/drive has arrived. Then you take a slow ride back down and do this again. And again. And again. Until the end of the day Sunday!
Did we mention that there is camping right at the base of the hill? Riders, drivers, volunteers and spectators can all come and camp on Friday and Saturday nights (Sunday, too, if you wish) and kick back in front of the campfire sharing your experiences of the day!
(Are you a sports car driver? We also have classes for cars and car entries are welcome. Please see regulations on the website.)
This two-day event happens at Mount Ascutney State Park in Vermont. The hillclimb is an open event for all types of motorcycles, cars and sidecars. Newcomers are welcome. If you are a first-time competitor, we can help you prepare your bike and help you get oriented to the sport of hillclimb.
Take a look at the competition section of the ClimbAscutney.com web site to review the rules and to see the schedule for the weekend. Also, be sure to check out photos from last year's event!
