Smart riders know that attending a track day is a worthwhile investment your riding career. Here’s why: every time we go out on the street on our motorcycles, we have a whole world of variables in front of us that we need to be aware of and manage. Road conditions, traffic, weather, sun angles, wildlife and just thoughts about where we are going and why all occupy space in our brain and do not allow us to fully concentrate on riding well. Track days remove these variables so you can work on your skills in a relaxed and fun environment. In a typical day, you will spend some time in the classroom talking about optimizing your riding and then take tons of laps on the track with instructors who will tailor their advice to your needs and desired level of input. It’s a common misconception that track days are only for racers and high performance enthusiasts. The reality is that the majority of track day participants are regular riders of every ability on every kind of bike. Bottom line: you’ll have a great time and you’ll return to the street a much better rider.
Bikes: Any brand and displacement.
Passengers: Passengers are not allowed.
Preparation: You’ll need to start with a motorcycle that is in proper mechanical condition and has good tires. When you get to the track, cover all plastic and glass (turn signals, headlights, etc.) with blue painters tape. Remove your mirrors (you won’t need them) and any luggage or extra bodywork that could potentially fall off. Make sure your motorcycle has a full tank of fuel and that you are wearing proper riding gear (textile clothing is OK, leather is not required.) See the Fishtail Riding School web site for more bike and rider prep info.
