Pics or it didn't happen? Oh, it happened. And it was AWESOME!
The new track at Canaan Motor Club was a perfect spot for our first track day of the year. The day started out cool and damp, but improved to sun in the afternoon as riders made laps in both directions with the majestic Mount Cardigan in the background. We saw a whole range of bikes, from old airheads to GSes, LTs and S1000 RRs, ridden by people of all abilities. The slower group was spaced to prevent bunching and there was no passing allowed in this group, resulting in a relaxed environment on the track. The fast group was allowed limited outside passing and some small groups of friends were able to race each other in small groups, grinning ear-to-ear the whole time. Instructors from Fishtail Riding School were out on the track with both groups, offering tips and advice and providing solid visual references for form and line. With a 20 minute-on, 20-minute-off cycle of track time, we got a whole lot of riding in. One participant counted 84 laps!
The Canaan Motor Club is a new facility that is still under construction. The 1.3 mile track is brand new and in perfect shape. It has been designed with generous run out areas for safety and can be run in two directions, which makes it feel like two completely different tracks! When the grass comes in and the leaves are on the trees, it is going to be one of the most picturesque tracks in the country!
